Minor League City Series Semi-Finals: Phillies (MNLL) 6 vs. Padres (Inc.) 5
The Minor League City Series semi-final game between the Incarnation Padres and National League Phillies was one for the record books. The game was filled with pitching, defense and timely hitting. The Phillies sent 11 year old, Matt Murphy to the hill and he threw 82 great pitches. The Padres came out hitting as Mike Shea and Andrew Canario collected hits to take a 1-0 lead. The Phillies plated two in the home half off Padres Ace Alex Tauro as Jared Crowell and Murphy reached and scored. Murphy struck out the side in the 2nd and Alyssa Gorman scored for the Phillies to take a 3-1 lead after two. Great defense from the Phillies Nick Cordeau, Stephen Holmberg, Mike Polcari, Kevin Burns, Ian Fogarty and Steven Morris kept the Padres off the board. Tauro struck out the side in the bottom of the 3rd for his last inning of work. The Padres plated 3 in the 4th as Shea, Bobby Cook and Adam Caffey scored to tak e a 4-3 lead. The Padres defense was flawless with Tyler Pothier, Matt Letterie and Will Caffey making plays. Canario pitched a great 4th leaving the game 4-3 Padres. Nick Cordeau took over on the bump as the Padres plated another increasing the lead to 5-3. The Phillies patient attack scored two as Issaac Pacor and Harry Kumm scored to tie the game at 5. Cordeau set down the middle of the Padres order in the 6th with catcher Cory Bright making plays. In the home half of the 6th, Jacob Curran and Steven Morris walked on close pitches from Will Caffey. Bright was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases for Murphy. The Padres pulled the outfield in to make a play at the plate but Murphy smoked a one hopper off the left field fence for a walk off game winning single 6-5 Phillies.
