Minor League City Series Championship: Phillies (MNLL) 16 vs. Thunder (CAL.) 3

 

The Melrose Minor League City Series championship game was between the two remaining undefeated teams in the city. The National League Phillies sent Nick Cordeau to the mound and retired the side after a lone single from Drew Botto. The Thunder sent Jimmy Melican to the hill and the Phillies scored five runs as Alyssa Gorman and Harry Kumm scored on a double from Ian Fogarty. Ryan Carney pitched well in the second for the Thunder and great defense was played by Justin Hori, Bobby Hutchinson, Tommy Burns and Joey Burns. The Thunder scored two in the 3rd as Julia Foley walked then scored on a Michael Pedrini triple and Botto single making the score 5-2 Phillies. The Phillies plated three in the 3rd on hits from Jared Crowell and Cordeau. The Phillies defense was anchored by Issaac Pacor, Stephen Holmberg, Mike Polcari, Jacob Curran and Steven Morris. The Phillies scored five more in the 4th off Botto with Cory Bright, Isaiah Bedsole and Matt Murphy crushing the ball. Zachary Letson singled to lead off the 5th for the Thunder but was erased on a laser by Murphy on an attempted steal. Bright and Crowell finished up the game for the Phillies on the hill resulting in a 16-3 Phillies undefeated 16-0 championship season.
