May 23 Brewers 8 Phillies 0
After a short rain delay the
Brewers faced off against the Phillies
with Cam McGuire on the mound for the Brewers facing Mike Luciano for the
Phillies. The Brewers' offense was clicking from the 1st inning when
Mike
Caspariello started the game with a sharp single and scored with some nifty
baserunning. In the home half of the 1st the Phillies' Matt Stromski and Tom
Corvi reached base and moved to 2nd and 3rd with one out. McGuire closed
the
door on that scoring threat by retiring the next two batters. In the top
of the
2nd inning McGuire lead off with a monster home run to deep centerfield to
increase his lead to 2
-0. McGuire held the Phillies' offense at bay only allowing 2 more
baserunners.
The Brewers' offense was held silenced until the top half of the 5th inning when
Peter Healy earned a walk and scored on a Caspariello double. The Brewers'
opened up their lead in the top of the 6th inning. Chris Ackerman lead off
with
a single to center and then sc ored on McGuire's 2nd homerun of the game
increasing the lead to 5 -0.
Consecutive hits from the Brewers' Ryan Smith, Matt Cornelius, Alex Burton, and
Healy punched across 3 more Brewers' runs. McGuire retired the first 2
Phillie
batters in the home half of the 6th and Chris Burke came in to earn the save by
getting the last out of the inning. Tyler Thompson was a force to deal
with at
the plate for the Brewers. Sean Connolly, Jake Karelas, JD Colborne, Dan
Prechard, Alex Dervartanian, Alex Herrera, and Dan Pasco played a strong defense
for the Phillies'.
