June 3 Minor Braves 8 Phillies 4
The Phillies and Braves
waged a classic baseball battle with the Braves coming out on top 8-4. The
first inning was a pitcher's duel, with the Phillies' Connor Smith and the
Braves' Nick Chan initially silencing the offenses. The Braves exploded for 5
runs in the second inning with key hits from Matt Starek and Justin Parker, then
added 2 more in the third, paced by Darren Parker, Connor Allwood, and Jay Tucci.
The tally would have been even higher if not for the defensive efforts of Billy
Muzarol, Garrett Fogarty, and Luke Van Veen. Despite a long double from Jared
Crowell, the glove work of Jackson Marusich, Matt Ingalls, and Ryan Pasco kept
the Phillies off the board. After the defensive work of Dan Cunningham and
Saorise Connolly kept the Braves from adding to their total, the Phillies
exploded for 4 runs on hits from Cory Bright, Darwin Anderson, Sean Prendergast,
and Mike Polcari. The Braves answered with a run from Justin Smith, but the
Phillies showed their heart and refused to quit, loading the bases with one out
on a Ryan Clancy single. Steve Stromski then ended the threat by turning a line
smash into a game ending unassisted double play, giving the Braves the upset
victory.
